Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction to project team (mechanical & electrical designers, engineers, manufacturing staff, purchasing, QA, QC, etc.)
• Responsible for managing complex projects and to deliver on contractual commitments to customers
• Primary point of contact for assigned projects
• Ensures project progresses as per the agreed schedule (design, manufacturing, commissioning)
• Clearly communicates with team members (internally and externally), customer and senior management in terms of issues, decisions, progress, risks, etc.
• Maintains strong project monitoring process to ensure project commitments to customers are met
• Follows Surround project management, design and manufacturing processes

Qualifications:

• Degree/diploma in technical field would be desirable
• 5-10 years of experience running EPC or construction projects
• Understand the design and manufacturing process
• Knowledgeable of mechanical and electrical design and engineering processes
• PMP designation or eligibility for PMP would be an asset
• Proven project management knowledge and experience including:
  • clearly articulating project scope statement, project plan and progress reports
  • fully capable in identifying, creating and processing change orders
  • able to effectively manage risk on a project

• Conversant in project scheduling methods and tools (MS Project)
• Ability to effectively work with customers, professionals (engineers, architects and designers) and shop floor staff
• Proven people skills, ability to gain consensus in a team environment

Basic Job Function:

Responsible for planning and delivery of engineering documentation; understanding customer requirements, developing technical specifications, designs and production sign-offs

• Responsible for ensuring the key steps during project development are performed in full compliance with Surround Technologies Quality System.
• Responsible for ensuring designs conform to all structural regulatory and code requirements.
• Work closely with other engineering disciplines (structural, mechanical and electrical) to ensure effective integrated solutions
• Work closely with our customer’s engineers to ensure our solutions fully meet the customer’s needs
• Primary point of contact for project managers, shop floor staff, estimating and customers related to mechanical engineering and design
• Developing and maintaining  positive, sustainable relationships with our clients’ professional staff (engineers, architects, project managers)

Responsibility and Authority:

• Lead and coordinate all mechanical engineering activities to ensure  projects are executed in a cost effective and timely manner
• Provide direction to other mechanical designers and engineers
• Work with structural and electrical engineers to ensure solutions can be efficiently and cost effectively integrated
• Work closely with Project Managers and act as primary technical co-ordination interface with clients
• Finalize the designs by affixing P. Eng. Seal to all the drawings, documents, data sheets, calculations etc. as required
• Assist in project budget development and product cost estimating
• Generate design timelines for each project; schedule documents and drawings deliverables
• Provide accurate and timely reports to Project Managers and third parties
• Assist in project manpower planning
• Develop Bills of Materials, product flow charts, Quality Control Plans, etc.
• Assist in ongoing improvements to SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
• Assist in the upkeep of the Quality System
• Ensure project files and binders are kept up to date
• Conduct engineering meetings and reviews
• Control product release and change management; ECR (Engineering Change Request) and ECN (Engineering Change Notice)
• Plan, specify and conduct product and component testing as required
• Ensure customer intellectual property is protected on projects when Non-Disclosure Agreements are in place
• Maintain and control timesheets and documents on R&D projects for SR&ED Tax Credits
• Perform duties as delegated by Engineering Manager

 Core Competence Requirements:-          Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering-          Registered P.Eng. with APEGBC

• Currently in a role where you are stamping mechanical drawings, calculations, documents, data sheets, etc.
• Min 8 years’ experience in industrial project environments
• Excellent knowledge of electrical Regulatory Requirements and Codes such as NBC of Canada, or equivalent US jurisdictions
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Must be an effective motivator and able to work closely with all company personnel
• Very good understanding of manufacturing, production and purchasing processes and procedures
• Above average mechanical aptitude
• Excellent skills in AutoCAD.  Solid Works proficiency would be an asset
• Highly organized and efficient
• Experienced in MS Office software; MS Word, MS Excel, Outlook and MS Project

AdvanTec Global Innovations Group buys Surround Technologies Inc.
Brad Miller, President AdvanTec Global Innovations announced the acquisition of Surround Technologies Inc. from The Redco Group of Companies effective April 1, 2011. The move gives Surround Technologies a strategic partnership with another of Miller’s companies, Advanced Bending Technologies.

Surround Technologies Inc (STI) is located in Maple Ridge, BC. It is a world class manufacturer and designer of the largest and heaviest custom electrical/mechanical equipment and related products for commercial and industrial applications. Services include design, project management, welding and fabrication, shearing and forming, sandblasting, painting, assembly, electrical and finishing.
